Waltham Pocket Watches: What Is The History Of Waltham Pocket Watches?
Waltham pocket watches are a very historical brand of pocket watch. The history of this company goes back a long way. If you were to look back you can trace this company all the way back to 1850. The company was started by three different men, Howard, Davis, and Dennison. They started out as three very common men who had a powerful idea. Their goal was to try and produce Waltham pocket watches in mass by using machinery. You may wonder why they wanted to use machinery to mass produce Waltham pocket watches, but the reason is very simple.
If you are able to mass produce anything you will be able to offer it at a more competitive price. If it took a lot of work to produce Waltham pocket watches then there may have been many people who were unable to afford them. Being able to use machinery to mass produce the watches would make them affordable to many people who otherwise would not have had access to them.
Waltham pocket watches created a buzz in the pocket watch industry during its time. Even though they are very popular company, during this time they tried to mass produce the product they were faced with a barrage of different problems they never anticipated.
Not only this, but the company was also in financial distress. The main reason for this is bad to acquire capital from many different sources in order to purchase the machinery they needed to mass create the pocket watches. They also created watches that had various defects when they were attempting to mass-produce them.
Usually they would have to correct every one of these small defects before they were able to proceed. This proves to be a very time-consuming process and it is said the Waltham Company had a very difficult time recovering from these unexpected problems.
Even though the company was founded in 1850 they did not sell their first pocket watch into the year 1853. Once they were able to make their first sale and establish some kind of credibility they changed the name of the company to the Boston watch company. During the period of about four years they were able to produce more than 400 different pocket watches.
But only a few years later after some initial success the company fell upon hard economic times and the company was sold again. Once the company was sold it was renamed the Appleton Tracy company. The company was able to mass-produce 10,000+ pocket watches during a certain period of time.
I tell you all this in order for you to understand the historical significance of what the company still is today. Even though it may not go by the same name the historical aspect is still there. You should have no problem identifying Waltham pocket watches these days. This is because they have teamed up with Waltham Improvement Company. You will have no doubt when you purchase one of these watches that it is a Waltham original.
